1. Take a closer look at the structure of the organ:
- find the outer capsule which is made up of dense fibrous connective tissue;
- in each lobule of the thyroid gland you will see many round-shaped follicles of different sizes which are filled with colloid substance;
- thyroid follicles are formed by a single layer of follicular cells, or T-thyrocytes;
- the space between the follicles is filled with thin fibrous connective tissue and numerous blood capillaries;
- when the follicles are highly active, there is little or no colloid present, and you can find the so-called resorption vacuoles in it;
- between the follicles in the interfollicular space you can find clusters of epithelium.
2. Draw and sign:
1 - follicle,
2 - follicular cell (T-thyrocytes),
3 - colloid,
4 - resorption vacuoles,
5 – loose fibrous connective tissue,
6 - blood capillary.
4. Define and write significant features of the slide.
