nt_06. Ependymal glia
(Brain, Heidenhain's azan)
1. Identify the cells which line the ventricles of the central nervous system in the brain parenchyma and explore their structure:
- the ependymal cells (also known as ependymocytes):
- line the brain ventricles and the central canal of the spinal cord,
- have a columnar morphology and form a single layer of cuboidal or cylindrical cells,
- their apical surfaces contain microvilli, which facilitate the movement of cerebrospinal fluid;
- some of the glial cells have long basal proŃesses and physically support the brain.
2. The specimen is studied without drawing
3. Define and write significant features of the specimen
