1. Histology:
- interalveolar septa with full-blooded capillaries are sharply thickened due to the proliferation of coarse-fibrous connective tissue (sclerosis);
- in the lumens of the alveoli, interalveolar septa, peribronchial and perivascular connective tissue there are clusters of brown granules of the iron-containing pigment hemosiderin, which lies freely or is located in the cytoplasm of macrophages (siderophages);
- there are black deposits of coal dust in the perivascular and peribronchial stroma; the walls of the pulmonary vessels are thickened and sclerosed.
2. Anatomy: lungs are enlarged in size, dense consistency, brown-rust color from the surface and on the incision, with layers of gray color.
